Bahrain’s Ambassador to Oman Dr Juma Al Kaabi received Dr Hashim Hussein, head of the Investment and Technology Promotion Office of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (Unido) in Bahrain.
Bahraini-Omani Businessmen Association chief executive officer Sayyida Hajija bint Jaafar Al Said was present.
During the meeting, prospects for joint co-operation in economic and development fields were discussed, with the aim of supporting entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises in Bahrain and Oman.
The ambassador stressed the importance of supporting small and medium enterprises as one of the main drivers of economic growth and job creation, pointing to the deep-rooted historical and fraternal ties that characterise Bahraini-Omani relations, and the continuous development they are witnessing in various fields.
Dr Hussein praised the continuous support and backing that entrepreneurship enjoys in Bahrain from His Majesty King Hamad stressing that this support has had a great impact on consolidating the culture of entrepreneurship and enhancing the role of the private sector and small and medium enterprises in economic development.
Dr Hussein also emphasised that the attention given by Bahrain to entrepreneurship, and the supportive and stimulating environment it has provided for innovators and entrepreneurs, have significantly contributed to the success of developing the Bahraini model for entrepreneurship, which has become a pioneering experience that has garnered widespread international attention.
He explained that the success of the Bahraini model has not been limited to the local level, but has extended its impact internationally, as it has been implemented in 56 countries around the world, reflecting the prominent position Bahrain has attained in developing entrepreneurship ecosystems and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Dr Hussein praised the vital role of the Bahraini-Omani Entrepreneurs Association in empowering youth and women through small and medium enterprises.
Ms Al Said stressed the importance of strengthening the partnership between the entities concerned with entrepreneurship in the two countries, and benefiting from the international expertise provided by the United Nations Office for Investment and Technology Promotion, in order to contribute to developing the capabilities of entrepreneurs and opening new horizons for Bahraini and Omani projects.
