FOOTBALL – Bahrain's youth men’s football national team lost to their counterparts from the UAE 0-1 in a friendly game played as part of their overseas training camp in the Emirates.
The kingdom’s squad are gearing up to compete in the second edition of the U-17 Gulf Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Doha, Qatar from October 16 to November 4.
The Bahrainis are one of 10 junior men’s squads in the event, making it its biggest edition in history.
The friendly was the first of two in the UAE during their camp.
The two sides are also set to face off tomorrow, before they are scheduled to return to Bahrain on Tuesday.
Bahrain head coach Ugo Klingor from Croatia has 25 players at the camp.
They include Ahmed Shakeel, Mohammed Attia, Issa Almaliki, Khaled Waleed, Abdulaziz Buallay, Hamad Adnan, Haitham Shafi, Ali Alkhalaqi, Mohammed Al Mulhem, Abdulrahman Majid, Hamad Alhajri, Rashed Jamal, Jassim Matrouk, Ebrahim Talafat, Hussain Alali, Abbas Mohammed, Fahad Nasser, Bader Abdulaziz, Elyas Abdulla, Zain Al Saffar, Rayan Alajimi, and goalkeepers Adnan Bu Ali, Abdulla Alruwaiei, Mohammed Khaled, and Hussain Ali.
The Bahrainis are in Group A for the U-17 Gulf Cup’s preliminary round alongside the UAE, Oman, tournament guests China, and hosts Qatar, while Group B is composed of reigning champions Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Yemen, and Egypt, who are also guests.
Aside from the U-17 Gulf Cup, Bahrain’s youth men’s squad are also gearing up for the qualifiers of the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2027, to be held in November later this year.
