Push to make crossings safer for pedestrians
There is barely any pedestrian infrastructure in Bahrain, so anything would be helpful. Proper and safe sidewalks, marked crossings at intersections, crossing lights that indicate to pedestrians (and drivers) when it is their turn to cross and driver education stressing that drivers must yield to pedestrians.
You take your life in your hands when crossing roads here because it is so unsafe. In many countries around the world pedestrians in marked crossings have the right-of-way.

There are many pedestrians who don’t use the designated crossings, and then there are people who cross the highways too – it’s dangerous for both drivers and pedestrians, especially on a highway where cars are travelling at a higher speed than on inner roads.
Just last week, I had two instances where I had to suddenly hit the brakes. On Monday, it was a cyclist who was casually walking his bicycle across the road and, mind you, he had no helmet! On Wednesday, I came across a man who was crossing the highway while balancing a bucket on his shoulder and some other items in his other hand. His face was covered, and it was almost sunset, so it was getting dark too.
We, as drivers and passengers, are belted up and following speed limits, but then there are cyclists and pedestrians creating dangerous situations on the roads. It’s not okay; everyone has to co-operate and follow traffic rules.

Expatriate mum and children fly home after two-year ordeal
There are so many cases like this. I saw one mother along Manama streets selling food outside of a supermarket while carrying her two young children in the sweltering summer. She said that they wanted to go back home, but the children are all undocumented, and they have a travel ban due to a large bank loan. There are thousands of such stories of expats. Children are the ones who are suffering the most.

My heart goes out to this mother and her innocent children. Nearly two years of uncertainty and struggle are something no family should have to endure. Alhamdulillah, they have finally returned home safely. May Allah make their future easier and reward everyone who helped them during this difficult time.
