CYCLING – TEAM Bahrain Victorious rider Alessandro Borgo sprinted to a top 10 finish yesterday in the 23rd Gooikse Pijl elite men’s road race in Belgium.
The one-day event, covering a distance of 199 kilometres, was the third and final participation for the kingdom’s squad in a series of top-class Belgian rides over the past week.
Borgo crossed the line in ninth place overall. The Italian was part of a group that battled in a bunch sprint, led by Max Kanter of XDS Astana Team, who triumphed in four hours 15 minutes and 25 seconds.
Borgo was followed by his Slovenian teammate Matej Mohoric in 28th, while German Phil Bauhaus came 57th and Australian Robert Stannard finished 60th. Completing Bahrain Victorious’ line-up in the race were Pole Kamil Gradek in 100th and Belarusian Mikita Babovich in 103rd.
