The 45-day-long Onam celebrations organised by the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) were truly remarkable, culminating in a magnificent sadhya enjoyed by around 5,000 people. The celebrations featured a wide variety of cultural programmes presented by renowned artists from Kerala, along with numerous Onam-related competitions that brought joy and excitement to the Malayalee community.
What made this grand celebration especially memorable was the dedication, teamwork and selfless service of hundreds of volunteers from different walks of life, including doctors, engineers and other professionals as well as members of the Ladies Wing and Children’s Wing. Their collective efforts transformed the celebrations into a spectacular success.
The event was organised under the leadership of BKS president P V Radhakrishna Pillai, with the support and guidance of general secretary Varghese Karakkal. The contributions of general convener Hari Krishnan Nair and onasadhya convener Unnikrishnapillai, along with their dedicated teams, deserve special appreciation.
Preparing and serving a traditional Onam feast on such a massive scale is no small achievement. It requires meticulous planning, co-ordination, teamwork and, above all, a spirit of service. The volunteers demonstrated all these qualities, ensuring that thousands of people could enjoy the traditional feast and experience the true spirit of Onam.
Year after year, BKS has been raising the standard of its Onam celebrations, attracting growing participation not only from the Indian community but also from local people. These celebrations go beyond cultural entertainment; they promote friendship, cultural understanding, harmony and a sense of belonging among people from different backgrounds.
The wonderful memories created through this year’s celebrations will undoubtedly remain in the hearts of everyone who participated. My heartfelt congratulations and sincere gratitude go to the entire BKS leadership, organising committees and every volunteer who contributed to this memorable occasion.
Thank you, BKS, for keeping Kerala’s rich cultural heritage alive in Bahrain and for bringing people together through the timeless spirit of Onam.
