The Sultanate of Oman today chaired the coordination meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Group, which convened in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania.
Oman’s delegation was led by Khalid bin Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Shura Council.
The meeting discussed the coordination of Arab parliamentary positions towards issues and topics on the agenda of the 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)'s Assembly meetings in Arusha, Tanzania. The participants listened to speeches by candidates to the post of Chairman of the IPU and discussed the emergency item submitted by the Arab Group. The conferees also reached consensus about the Arab Group’s candidates to vacant positions in the IPU’s standing committees and subsidiary committees. They also reached consensus about the appointment of parliamentarians regarding consultations on pathways to achieve peaceful coexistence in the Middle East.
The Sultanate of Oman also chaired the coordination meeting of GCC legislative councils that was held on the sidelines of the IPU’s assembly sessions.
Al Maawali also held a meeting with Mussa Azzan Zungu, Speaker of the National Assembly of the United Republic of Tanzania. They discussed ways to enhance legislative cooperation between the Shura Council and the National Assembly of the United Republic of Tanzania. The meeting also dealt with means of exchanging views, sharing experiences and consolidating cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economy, tourism and investment.
