A 15-year-old student stabbed eight girls at a secondary school in Istanbul on Tuesday morning, killing one, according to Turkish officials.
The attacker disguised herself in the school’s uniform before launching the assault at Şeyh Şamil Imam Hatip Secondary School in the Başakşehir district at around 8.35am local time.
Police apprehended the suspect, who was identified as a Grade 10 student enrolled at a neighbouring institution.
The Turkish Health Ministry confirmed that one victim succumbed to her injuries despite emergency medical intervention, while seven others remain under treatment.
The tragedy comes amid heightened national concern over rising youth violence, prompting authorities to implement stricter security measures across educational institutions for the 2026-2027 academic year.
Historically, Türkiye has maintained relatively low rates of violent attacks on school campuses.
