A 21-year-old man allegedly walked into a classroom carrying a chainsaw and attacked two schoolgirls in India's Andhra Pradesh state.
The incident took place at around 10.30am at the Zilla Parishad High School in Raptadu village while a class was underway.
Police identified the accused as Hemanth, a maternal uncle of the primary victim, who had allegedly stalked her after she rejected his advances.
A 15-year-old student suffered critical injuries to her head, neck, and back, while a classmate was injured after trying to intervene.
The man is still on the run, and police in Anantapur district have launched a manhunt for the accused.
The critically injured victim underwent emergency surgery locally before being airlifted to a hospital in Bengaluru for further treatment.
Her condition has since stabilised following medical procedures, according to Andhra Pradesh cabinet minister Nara Lokesh.
