A baby girl who was tortured by her Saudi father has been reunited with her mother, the Labour and Social Development Ministry announced on its Twitter account.
"The toddler, Dareen, has been handed over to her mother in the city of Mecca," said official spokesman Khalid Abal Khalid in a tweet, thanking all people and social media users who expressed their sympathy.
He announced that legal action would be taken against the father who was caught on video repeatedly slapping the infant and choking and shaking her violently.
The heart-rending video quickly went viral on the internet turning four-month Dareen’s tragic plight into a public issue.
Subsequently, a photo of the ministry-branch director-general Abdulla Al-Alyan handing over the baby to her mother in Mecca sparked sighs of relief across the country.
The mother has reportedly returned to Medina with the child, while her husband prepares to face trial.
