An LPG gas cylinder exploded at a restaurant in the Kuwaiti district of Mushraf, leaving seven people injured, according to Al Rai newspaper.
Three of them were admitted to hospitals' intensive care units while the others are reportedly in stable condition.
The restaurant, which belongs to Al Mishref Co-operative Society, also sells pastries and sweets.
Civil defence units, policemen and 11 ambulances rushed to the scene of the blast which resulted from a gas leak.
The restaurant, which suffered major damages, was evacuated and closed pending completion of required measures.
In a statement to Al Anba newspaper, a security source denied the explosion was an act of terror.
