Bahrain: An all-female crew flew a Gulf Air flight from Bahrain to Pakistan last week, in what is believed to be a first for the airline.
The pilot on October 22’s Flight GF752 from Bahrain to Karachi was Vanessa Umba, who previously made history by being the airline’s first female captain.
She was joined by senior first officer Waed Al Dosery and the cabin crew were Sandra Stojankvic, Divina Duque, Lenka Vojtaskova and Thahani El Fraykh.
“The flight was uneventful and we arrived 20 minutes earlier on schedule, showing a high level of professionalism,” said Ms Umba, who went on to describe it as “another milestone for women in the challenging male-dominated aviation industry”.
“I cannot wait to reiterate this enjoyable experience,” she added.
Ms Umba is a member of the Arabian section of the 99’s International Women Pilots Organisation, which was founded in 1929 for the mutual support and advancement of women pilots.
The organisation now has more than 5,000 women pilots in 35 countries ranging from microlight pilots to astronauts.
