Eleven planes have so far been designated to take supporters of Bahrain’s football team to Kuwait on Tuesday for the semi-finals of the Gulf Cup 2017.
This was revealed today by Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Hisham Al Jowder on his official Twitter account, where he announced that 10 companies have come forward to sponsor the flights for the football fans.
He said the move followed directives from Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa to support the national team as it faces Oman in the semi-final.
“We thank all the companies that responded quickly and within minutes to support the national team,” said Mr Al Jowder on twitter today.
“This was part of directives from Shaikh Nasser to support out national team for the next level.”
The companies are Kuwait Finance House (KFH), Viva Bahrain, Zain Bahrain, GPIC, Bapco, Banagas, Batelco, National Bank of Bahrain, Alba and BBK.
Bahrain qualified for the semi-finals after eliminating Qatar last night in the last and decisive Group B match.
Bahrain managed to obtain the one point they needed to qualify over Qatar whose only option was to win in order to reach the penultimate stage of the 23rd Gulf Cup hosted by Kuwait.
In the semi-finals on Tuesday night, Bahrain will play Oman, the Group A leader, while Iraq will take on the UAE, the second team to qualify from Group A.
