Bahrain yesterday chaired a Security Council meeting, which discussed the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).
The meeting was chaired by Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the UN in New York Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Rowaiei.
Briefings were delivered by Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić, Kosovo Foreign Minister Glauk Konjufca and Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK Peter Due.
Ambassador Al Rowaiei commended all constructive initiatives aimed at strengthening ties, including among countries in the Western Balkans. He also welcomed the formation of the government of Kosovo in February 2026, noting that sustained political stability is essential to creating favourable conditions for maintaining security and stability and advancing development and prosperity efforts.
He called on both Serbia and Kosovo to engage constructively and in good faith in the Pristina–Belgrade dialogue facilitated by the European Union. He also welcomed the convening of a trilateral meeting between Serbia, Kosovo and the European Union, underscoring Bahrain’s emphasis on prioritising dialogue and diplomacy and making use of available opportunities. Ambassador Al Rowaiei commended the co-operation between the Kosovar and Serbian authorities in efforts to locate 1,582 people missing following the events of 1998–1999 in Kosovo. He highlighted Bahrain’s position on the importance of strengthening trust and promoting the values of tolerance and coexistence between the two countries.
He reiterated Bahrain’s support for strengthening ties between Kosovo and Serbia, as well as the importance of reaching mutual understandings and agreements that contribute to maintaining security and stability in the Western Balkans region.
