BAHRAIN’S Shitaye Eshete won the Hamburg Marathon in Germany on Sunday with a new personal best time.
Another Bahraini Mimi Belete finished third.
Shitaye completed the race in two hours, 24 minutes and 51 seconds, better than her previous best of 2:25:36 set in 2016.
She finished 37 seconds ahead of runner-up Birke Debele of Ethiopia.
Mimi claimed third place in 2:26:06, also a personal best.
Rounding out the top six were Kenyans Sylvia Kibet and Kuftu Tahir and Swede Isabellah Andersson.
The men’s race was won by Solomon Deksisa in 2:06:34 to lead a trio of Ethiopians to the podium.
Tadu Abate finished second 20 seconds behind while Ayele Abshero was third, 45 seconds back.
Solomon Yego of Kenya, Stephen Kiprotich of Uganda and Vincent Kipruto, also of Kenya, rounded out the top six.
