A video recently released by the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunication presenting its vision for Bahrain's light rail project has gone viral.
The video was watched by over 30,000 people with over 1,000 shares and 4,000 reactions on GDN Online's official Facebook page in 24 hours.
The video mentions that the first phase of the LRT will have 30 km of elevated track, 20 stations which is likely to include an airport station. It is expected to have a carrying capacity of 43,000 passengers per hour.
Speaking to the GDN in May, Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Kamal Ahmed had said that Bahrain’s light rail project will reach a key stage when a tender is issued for a transaction adviser for the project in the second half of the year.
The rail project is part of Bahrain’s Public Transport Masterplan 2030, which has recommended the development of 184km of transit network comprising six lines, which is to be implemented in a phased manner by 2030.
