Banks in Saudi Arabia have warned their customers to be cautious and beware of text message scams to con them of their money.
Fraudsters tell customers that their ATM cards have been blocked “to be upgraded” and ask them to dial the phone number provided in the messages.
Banks also warned that some fraudsters impersonate official personalities and authorities and request donations which will be used for different purposes.
Banks Media Committee chairman Talaat Hafedh urged customers who receive such fraudulent messages to report the cases on 330330.
“Banks don’t contact customers to upgrade their data online”, said Hafedh, adding that banks used safe channels instead to upgrade customers’ data.
