MANAMA: VIVA Bahrain is launching its home broadband 5G network through new add-on plans and 5G-enabled devices from today.
The next generation platform offers faster speed of up to one Gbps, greater connectivity and lower latency.
Among the first telecom operators to launch the 5G network globally, VIVA Bahrain said it is offering 5G home broadband with state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor routers, providing an enhanced streaming and gaming experience.
Customers can subscribe to the 5G network as an add-on on their home broadband package; activate this next-generation network with an indoor router for BD10 per month or an outdoor router for BD12.5 per month.
Speaking on the 5G launch, VIVA Bahrain chief executive Nezar Banabeela said, “Driving Bahrain’s digital telecommunications future with investments in revolutionary technologies and applications has been the forefront of VIVA Bahrain’s information and communications technology services.
“The start of our 5G commercial journey is a milestone for us towards this direction as we pave the way for future connectivity and add it to the kingdom’s leading 4G network.
“We’re really excited to embark on this new digital journey that holds incredible potential and ability to connect everything and enhance our customers’ lives with new experiences never imagined before.”
The telecom operator said its 5G network is set to optimise the overall digital experience for customers, as it caters to the growing demand for ultra-fast connectivity and enhanced service over the existing 4G network, by offering customers superior access to the IoT-enabled smart applications such as the virtual reality, augmented reality, robotics, cloud-gaming and much more.
VIVA Bahrain was the first operator in Bahrain to commercially pilot 5G back in June 2018 with a major showcase in City Centre Bahrain in the presence of Telecommunications and Transportation Minister Kamal Ahmed, the head of the TRA, and other key executives from the industry.
