MPs yesterday unanimously approved an urgent proposal to grant government homes to members of the victorious national football team.
Bahrain sealed the Gulf Cup for the first time in 49 years, following a 1-0 win over Saudi Arabia on Sunday night.
The proposal has been referred to the government for review.
However, MP Ibrahim Al Nefaei said the players deserved much more.
“Players need proper jobs and comfort for themselves and their families – not just homes,” he said.
Parliament members also voted to issue four statements congratulating the nation on the historic GCC Cup win, welcoming the GCC Summit in Riyadh, congratulating the country on National Day and Accession Day, and Human Rights Day which fell yesterday.
Parliament chairwoman Fouzia Zainal has been tasked with drafting the statements.
