STUDENTS from the New Millennium School-DPS Bahrain have been crowned champion in the World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) Bahrain round.
A total of 780 scholars from 20 schools in Bahrain and the UAE took part in the event that was held at St Christopher’s School.
From the NMS-DPS school, 150 scholars formed 50 teams for the competition.
The school was crowned champion in the junior category while its students also won 333 gold medals, 369 silver medals as well as nine trophies in different categories.
In the junior category, the team of Akshat Pradeep Kumar, Aarefah Kothambawala and Caelyn Claudius of Grade VIII was declared the Champion Team of WSC, first position in Team Challenge and first position in Team Bowl.
This was followed by fourth place Champion team of Aryan Pradeep Kumar, Hisham Mohammed and Aishwarya Sakthivel.
Meanwhile, Akshat Pradeep Kumar also won the second individual Champion Scholar trophy and gold medal and was the only student to win the coveted ‘Asimov Award’ for the highest scoring scholar in the scholar’s challenge covering science and technology, art and music, literature, history, social science and special area.
Meanwhile, Leann Dennis and Pranav Poojari won one silver medal and four gold medals in the subject challenge while the team consisting of Antara Dongre, Nivya Sajis and Tanishka V Bhatia obtained the first overall position in Team Writing and Harshada Nair was declared as the second best writing champion in Bahrain in the junior category.
Team members Pavithra Vinod, Lakshmi Bijay and Anvi Tiwari won a trophy and gold medal as the fifth best debating team in Bahrain while gold medallists and champion debaters of NMS-DPS were Mariam Mapari, Shiven Thareja, Fayiz Rahman, Nivya Sajis, Mohammad Umar, Akshat Pradeep Kumar and Niranjana Menon.
