MEDICAL professionals in the country have been urged to volunteer their services in support of the nation’s efforts to limit the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19).
Bahrain Medical Society president Dr Ghada Al Qasim called upon retired doctors and nurses who fall into the “low risk” category to come forward to assist at the various treatment facilities in the country.
In a latest development, Bahrain has registered new cases of the virus from a patient who tested positive in a private clinic.
The country has 83 active cases and another 79 Bahrainis who came from Iran under the ministry’s International Covid-19 Repatriation Programme (ICRP).
All, except one, are stable and under medical care in isolation facilities, while 35 people have been discharged till date after being cured.
A number of others who visited affected countries and have been in contact with the affected are in various quarantine facilities in Bahrain.
With these new facilities in place, the demand for staff is on the rise, said Dr Al Qasim.
“We know there is shortage of staff in Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) and the Health Ministry,” she said.
“Retired doctors and nurses who are at low risk, which means medics who took early retirement and are young and with no chronic condition, should give back to the country and its people.”
Meanwhile, the employment unit at the Civil Service Bureau yesterday announced vacancies of nursing specialists and general nurses at the ministry.
Graduates with two years’ experience can apply for the first category while those with diploma and one-year experience can apply for the latter, said the official announcement.
They should also have experience in either intensive care or operation theatre, and should be registered with the National Health Regulatory Authority.
