SHURA Council first vice-chairman Jamal Fakhro yesterday won the Outstanding Arab Parliamentarian Award.
He was presented with his award at a gala ceremony at the Arab Parliamentary Union’s 23rd conference by president and Lebanese parliament speaker Nabih Berri at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.
The award bestows more responsibilities and challenges to do more for the people, said Mr Fakhro in his acceptance speech.
A statement on the achievement was issued later by council chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh praising Mr Fakhro’s commitment over the years towards developing work within the legislative authority.
Mr Fakhro has been a member of the Shura Council since 1993 and has been elected for 10 consecutive terms as its first vice-chairman.
A delegation headed by National Assembly chairman Ahmed Al Mulla is taking part in the conference, which ends today.
