APRIL has made its way into the record books as the warmest ever in Bahrain since 1902.
The Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry’s Meteorological Directorate reported in their monthly weather summary that the mean temperature of the month was 27.7C, which is 1.7C above the long-term normal for April. The previous record was 27.6C posted in April 2017.
The mean maximum temperature of the month was 33.3C which is 2.7C above the long-term normal. This also goes on record as the highest mean maximum temperature for April since 1946. The earlier record was 33.1C in April 2000.
“During the month Bahrain had 12 days with maximum temperature exceeding 35C,” the report said.
The highest temperature was 41.8C, recorded on April 2 at Bahrain International Circuit, followed by 39.9C at Bahrain International Airport on April 26.
The mean minimum temperature of the month was 23.7C which is 1.3C above the long-term normal and this goes on record as the third highest mean minimum temperature for April since 1946.
Durrat Al Bahrain recorded the lowest temperature of the month – 15.8C on April 6, followed by 20.1C at Bahrain International Airport on April 7.
Last month was also the second sunniest April since sunshine records began in 1968. Total hours of sunshine for the month was 315.7. April 2017 still holds the record with 318.1 hours of sunshine.
The mean relative humidity for April was 45 per cent whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 68pc and the mean minimum 22pc. The maximum relative humidity of 84pc was recorded on April 11 and 12 and the minimum of 9pc on April 24.
Trace amounts of precipitation were recorded on April 13 and 14 at Bahrain International Airport. The long-term mean total precipitation for April is 5.8mm. The highest monthly rainfall ever recorded during April at Bahrain International Airport was 69.9mm in 1961.
