BEING an expat is like blending with different people from all over the world.
However, co-existing with an international crowd also means getting used to people moving away. Whether they end up moving back home, or on to their next adventure, as an expat we will learn to perfect the goodbye.
Life abroad is, in many ways, what we make of it. So, even when the seemingly endless farewells are getting us down, we just try to stay positive and look forward to the future, holding on to the fond memories.
We were first introduced to the mother of all clubs, The Indian Club, in 1992. Experienced the friendship and bonding with friends of different cultures.
In our entire tenure in Bahrain, we were most active in the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam. We will cherish the memories forever! We also had great experiences as active members of the Kerala Social and Cultural Association.
With mixed feelings, we say goodbye to this amazing island after residing here for 32 years, a major part of our life. We are fortunate to have lived a blissful life in this land of pearls; saying goodbye is so hard. It is a home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts. While we are happy to relocate to our abode in Kerala, we will miss the warmth of unconditional love showered on us by the citizens and expatriates. Saying goodbye is never easy but the prospect of future adventures as senior citizens is hopefully enough for us to overcome any fears.
During this social distancing period, we do look for opportunities to socialise virtually. The coronavirus has changed the lives of people globally. In Bahrain, various social groups have shared their experiences, how they have made the best of the tumultuous situation and turned lockdown into a positive note.
We will not only miss the people we love, but the country which made our lives meaningful and taught us the value of discipline and trust.
We take this opportunity to convey our heartfelt gratitude to this beautiful country for giving us the comfort, security and freedom.
