MANAMA: Cafés, restaurants and sports centres will be open to all from today as Bahrain moves to the Covid-19 ‘green alert level’.
Unrestricted areas include gyms, swimming pools, barber shops, salons, spas and entertainment centres, announced the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (Covid-19) yesterday.
However, only fully vaccinated people and those aged under 12 will be allowed in cinemas and indoor sporting events.
“The decision follows a review of the average Covid-19 positivity rates,” said a task force statement.
People are, however, urged to continue adhering to safety measures such as wearing face masks in indoor public areas, social distancing and practising good hygiene.
“Every person has a shared responsibility to ensure transmission rates remain low and that national efforts to protect citizens and residents from Covid-19 are supported.”
Bahrain adopted a four-tier traffic light-style mechanism from July 1, to assess the Covid-19 spread in the kingdom and signal what facilities and services will be available to the public.
The four levels – green, yellow, orange and red – of the Covid-19 Alert Level Traffic Light System are based on the average percentage of positive cases out of daily Covid-19 tests.
The “green level” becomes applicable when the rolling average percentage of positive cases out of tests carried out is below two per cent for 14 days.
Starting off with yellow, the nation moved to green from July 16 to 18, and orange from July 19 to yesterday to mark Arafah and Eid Al Adha holidays.
“This is in line with the previous announcement that some dates will be designated a higher alert level in the interest of public health and safety,” said the statement.
Under the “green alert level”, the following sectors will be opened to those who are vaccinated and have completed 14 days after the second dose of a vaccine and those who have recovered from Covid-19, by presenting their green shields on the BeAware app (children aged under 12 must be accompanied by a vaccinated or recovered person):
• Cinemas
• Indoor events and conferences
• Attendance of indoor sporting events
The following sectors and activities will be open to the vaccinated and unvaccinated:
• Shopping malls and shops
• Restaurants and cafés
• Gyms and sports halls
• Swimming pools
• Barber shops, salons and spas
• Playgrounds and entertainment centres
• Entering government centres
• Outdoor events and conferences
• Attendance of outdoor sporting events
The “green level” also includes the option to attend education and training institutions, all the while following necessary precautionary measures, including wearing a mask when indoors at public places and maintaining social distancing measures at all times.
