German Ambassador to Bahrain Kai Boeckmann has issued the following message on the occasion of the Day of German Unity:
“Thirty-one years ago, on October 3, 1990, Germany was reunited.
“This is a day of joy, not only for the German people, but also for the global community.
“The events which led to the unification of Germany can provide inspiration for people all around the world.
“Three decades after the reunification of Germany, they are a reminder that the courage and solidarity of citizens combined with close co-operation between international partners can achieve what was thought to be impossible.
“This inspiration, in today’s world, is more necessary than ever.
“Covid-19 can be tackled only through global co-operation.
“People in many countries are suffering the effects of climate change.
“The recent floods in Germany once more reminded us how vulnerable we all are.
“But the touching messages of condolences and sympathy we received from Bahrain showed us how strong the solidarity between Germany and Bahrain is.
“Working together in this spirit, we can still mitigate the effects of climate change.
“Because of the experience of how German unity was achieved, the guiding principles of German foreign policy are the building of trust and close international co-operation.
“The relationship between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Kingdom of Bahrain is a vital element in our global network of partnerships. “For more than 49 years of diplomatic relations, Germany and Bahrain have been working together as close partners.
“I am very grateful for the continuous support extended to German-Bahraini relations by His Majesty King Hamad and by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
“The visit of Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani to Berlin last August where he met German Foreign Affairs Minister Heiko Maas has once more underscored the close relationship between our two countries.
“Our partnership comprises many areas.
“In the United Nations, German and Bahraini diplomats are working side by side to address global challenges.
“In the economic field, bilateral trade is steadily growing in both directions – even in times of Covid-19.
“German companies are investing and producing in Bahrain, supported by the Economic Development Board.
“They are offering job opportunities and training to Bahrainis, with the valuable support of Tamkeen.
“The language courses offered by the German Embassy are flourishing notwithstanding Covid-19.
“Due to Bahrain’s outstanding efforts in combating Covid-19, even travelling to Germany for tourism purposes is possible now for many vaccinated people.
“Over the last year, the German Embassy has substantially extended its windows to the public: Our Instagram account has won more than 5,000 followers.
“My Twitter account is offering up-to-date information relevant to Germany and Bahraini-German relations.
“A little more than one year ago, the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad, took important steps towards peace in the region.
“These steps were warmly welcomed by Germany on several occasions.
“Confidence building measures by all sides are now crucial to regain momentum in the Middle East peace process.
“Germany stands ready to support these efforts jointly with our partners in the European Union, Arab League and United Nations.
“On the occasion of the Day of German Unity, I am pleased to extend a special invitation to all of you: To honour our National Day, the German Embassy in Manama will celebrate on its social media channels starting from 10am to 4pm on October 3.
“You are cordially invited to celebrate with us under the following links on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/germanyinbahrain/ and Twitter: https://twitter.com/GermanyBahrain.”
