MANAMA: The number of new Covid-19 infections dropped by more than 26 per cent last week.
On average, 50 new cases per day were identified between October 21 and 27, resulting in a total of 349 infections, down from last week’s 474, the Health Ministry said.
Of the 349 cases, 317 were due to local transmission while 32 were identified amongst travellers, according to the Ministry’s weekly contact tracing report.
A total of 235 Bahrainis and 114 expatriates tested positive during this period, 109 of which were close contacts of Covid-19 cases.
Ninety-five tested positive after completing quarantine, 63 after developing symptoms and 50 cases emerged as a result of random community testing.
The ministry also identified three clusters of cases in its report, all of which emerged after the index case developed symptoms and tested positive for the disease.
A symptomatic 63-year-old Bahraini woman infected 10 of her family members across five different households, including her mother, siblings, niece and nephew.
Meanwhile, a 28-year-old Bahraini woman infected eight members of her family at a family gathering, including her sisters, nieces and nephews.
An additional cluster of five positive cases was identified after a 32-year-old expatriate worker developed symptoms. All individuals identified in this cluster work at the same company and live in two households.
