A BAHRAINI man allegedly growing marijuana in his Muharraq apartment let his pit bulls loose on police officers executing an arrest warrant at his home.
The crazed dogs chased officers down a fire escape and then stood guard outside the apartment building while authorities cordoned off the premises.
The 42-year-old public relations manager was accused by the High Criminal Court of growing marijuana to sell, as well as possessing the drug.
He was also accused of using hashish, methamphetamine – locally known as shabu – amphetamine, clonazepam and Lyrica in 2021.
Court documents revealed that the 42-year-old released his snapping, snarling pit bulls on police officers to avoid arrest which led to officers using emergency stairs to escape their dangerous jaws.
“Confidential informants provided information that launched an investigation into the defendant who was suspected of growing, selling and using narcotics,” revealed court documents.
“The defendant was very secretive in his dealings and although a secret source strengthened his relationship with him a sting operation failed to catch him red-handed.
“The 42-year-old was monitored and followed to his apartment in Muharraq after an arrest warrant was issued by the Public Prosecution.”
According to court documents, when officers approached the apartment and knocked on the door they were met with an individual who was in an ‘abnormal state’.
The documents revealed that the individual pointed out the defendant to them as he was sitting in the living room. “When the 42-year-old saw police officers approaching he immediately released two pit bulls who attacked the police,” it was revealed.
“For their safety, the police officers used the fire escape to descend from the building while the dogs ran downstairs and stood guard outside the main gate.
“Authorities then cordoned the property and extensive efforts were spent on containing the dogs for an hour-and-a-half.”
Court documents revealed that the dogs were led to the roof where they were trapped behind a door and officers went to the apartment to arrest the 42-year-old.
On searching the apartment, investigators uncovered a pot with specially-designed agricultural lighting and insulation to allow marijuana to be grown, in addition to some shabu.
“I have been using various narcotics since 1994 but I’m not a drug dealer,” said the 42-year-old in his statement to the Public Prosecution.
“I use shabu, hashish and various medical prescription pills that I don’t even know the name of.
“I get the narcotics from a Pakistani man who I contact through WhatsApp and once I transfer the money he sends me the drop locations to pick up the drugs.
“I saw a video on YouTube about growing marijuana so I wanted to try that but I failed to make the plant grow and I got the pills from the Pakistani.”
The case was adjourned until December 6 to bring in the defendant from custody.
