Covid-19 vaccination gap between the rich and poor nations could threaten global economic recovery, an expert has said.
Spanish think tank Fundación Alternativas executive vice-president Diego Lopez Garrido urged think tanks to work together to come up with innovative solutions to tackle the pandemic.
“Almost 70 per cent of the population in Europe have been inoculated, however, the rate of vaccination in Africa is only around 3.6pc – which is those who received two doses,” Mr Garrido pointed out.
He was speaking at the Global Think Tank Summit 2021, which concluded yesterday at the Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea and Spa.
“Everyone in the world should receive the vaccine, because coronavirus is a global problem and not a problem of a specific country or region.
“The vaccination gap is going to affect the recovery of the entire world and this is non-negotiable.
“Think tanks need to work together and better advise policymakers,” he added.
