A mother fined BD3,000 for mistreating her sons, aged three and four, has lost her final appeal.
The 30-year-old Bahraini woman was found guilty of assaulting her two children by the Lower Criminal Court in January.
The information came to light after her husband filed a police complaint against her for abusing their children in December last year.
The young ones were immediately moved to a government shelter. Authorities launched an investigation and compiled a report on the psychological state of the children.
The woman was subsequently fined for the abuse, however, she lodged an appeal at the High Criminal Appeals Court, which was rejected in February.
A final appeal was filed at the Cassation Court, which also upheld the initial ruling.
“The court trusts statements made by the defendant’s husband, in addition to what the children told the authorities,” read the court ruling.
“The victims did not suffer grave injuries, but a significant damage was caused to them psychologically.”
The victim’s father described how the woman assaulted the children on multiple occasions.
“I warned her many times against spanking the children and even tried to stop her,” he said in his statement to prosecutors.
“But she was unrelenting and always treated the young ones badly. She would hit them and they would end up crying.
“The children were mentally affected. I believe she could not cope with their constant demands and nagging.
“Despite several pleas and warnings, her abuses continued and that’s when I decided to inform the police,” he added.
