A TEAM of surgeons at BDF Hospital has succeeded in treating a 66-year-old patient who suffered from abdominal aortic aneurysm by using a new technique, revealed vascular and endovascular surgeon Dr Martin Maresch.
Used for the first time, the surgery required a small incision through an artery in the abdomen.
The patient was discharged from hospital the day after the surgery.
Dr Maresch explained that while placing the stents, doctors used a new technology, ‘Fusion’, which combines CT scans and angiography that allows for an accurate placement of the stent.
Previously the condition would call for a major surgery that required a wide opening of the abdomen and stopping blood circulation for a specific duration.
