MANAMA: His Majesty King Hamad has issued Decree No. (49) of 2022 determining electoral districts and constituencies and their boundaries and sub-committees for parliamentary elections.
According to the decree Bahrain is divided into a number of electoral districts such as the Capital district, Muharraq district, Northern district and the Southern district.
The scope of each electoral district is determined by the boundaries of the governorate in which it is located.
Each electoral district is divided into electoral constituencies, namely the Capital district (10) constituencies, Muharraq district (8) constituencies, Northern district constituencies and the Southern district (10) constituencies.
Each electoral district shall have a sub-committee to conduct the polling and counting processes, 15 general polling and counting committees at the kingdom’s level for voters whose names are registered in one of the electoral lists in the kingdom wishing to vote before the committee to elect any of the candidates registered in their constituency.
A decision shall be issued by the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister to form the committees referred to in the previous paragraph and to specify their locations and procedures to be followed for the election before these committees.
Decree No (71) of 2014 regarding defining electoral districts and constituencies and their boundaries, and sub-committees for the parliamentary elections, shall be repealed, as shall any text that contradicts the provisions of this decree.
The Prime Minister and the ministers, each within their jurisdiction, shall implement the provisions of this decree, which shall be enforced from the date of its issuance, and shall be published in the Official Gazette.
● Deputy Prime Minister and Infrastructure Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa has issued Edict (47) of 2022, regarding the determination of municipal electoral districts, electoral constituencies and their boundaries, and the number of sub-committees to elect members of municipal councils:
Subject to the provisions of Law (24) of 2014, amending some provisions of the Municipalities Law promulgated by Decree-Law (35) of 2001 with regard to the Municipality of the Capital, Bahrain is divided into a number of municipal electoral districts as follows: The region of the Governorate of Muharraq, the region of the Northern Governorate and the region of the Southern Governorate.
The scope of each electoral municipality is determined by the boundaries of the governorate in which it is located.
Subject to the provisions of Article 1 of this edict, each municipal area shall be divided into electoral constituencies as follows: The region of the Governorate of Muharraq – 8 constituencies, the region of the Northern Governorate – 12 constituencies and the region of the Southern Governorate – 10 constituencies.
The scope of each electoral constituency shall be determined as indicated in the tables related to the electoral constituencies for electing members of Parliament.
Each electoral constituency shall have a sub-committee to conduct the polling and counting processes, and 15 general polling and counting committees at the level of the kingdom for those voters whose names are registered in one of the electoral lists in the kingdom and who wish to cast their votes before these committees to elect any of the candidates in his constituency.
An edict shall be issued by the Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments to form the committees referred to in the previous paragraph and to specify their locations and procedures to be followed for the elections before these committees.
Edict (35) of 2014 regarding the determination of municipal electoral districts, electoral constituencies and their boundaries and the number of sub-committees for the election of members of municipal councils, as well as any text that contradicts the provisions of this edict shall be abrogated.
