BAHRAIN will play hosts Oman today in their final Group A match of the eight-team 2024 ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Asia Division 2 Qualifier at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Muscat, writes ADNAN SIPRA
Both teams are level on four points each and have already qualified for the semi-finals. But today’s result will determine which of the two sides will top the group.
Hong Kong and Singapore have also qualified for the semi-finals from Group B and will play each other tomorrow in their last match to decide the table-toppers from that group.
Bahrain will look to captain Aryan Ashwin to continue his good form after their 169-run win over Bhutan last Saturday. But head coach, Aashish Kapoor will want the middle-order batters to contribute more than the 20s and 30s most were able to manage.
The bowling has appeared incisive and well-balanced in the two matches thus far, with both fast bowlers and spinners reaping just rewards for their discipline and accuracy.
The semi-finals are scheduled for Thursday and the final will be played on Friday.
The finalists will head to the Asia Qualifier in 2023. Kuwait, Malaysia, Nepal and the UAE) have already qualified for that event.
The ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup will be held in 2024, with the host country yet to be decided.
