A CANDIDATE, who was once compared to then Hollywood heartthrob John Travolta when he ran for municipal office, is now running for Parliament from the Capital Governorate.
Jaffer Mahfoodh, 47, yesterday filed his papers to represent Constituency seven (Jid Ali, Jirdab and Al Nasfa) – his second attempt to run for public office.
More than a decade ago in 2010, Mr Mahfoodh had been compared to Mr Travolta when he contested municipal polls in the then-Central Governorate’s Constituency one.
A decade later, he believes his resemblance to Mr Travolta may have waned, but his desire to serve the public definitely hasn’t.
“I would like to make economic empowerment one of my top objectives,” he told the GDN.
“I was young when I first ran for office, but growing my business in the last decade has helped me mature, and I am still eager to serve my constituents.
“I may not look as much like Travolta as I did back in 2010, but my spirit to serve is just as strong as back then.”
