HIS MAJESTY King Hamad has expressed pride in the achievements of Bahraini women, citing their contributions to the kingdom’s development and decision-making processes, and their success in reaching the highest positions locally, regionally and globally.
He was receiving at Safriya Palace a delegation from the UN Women and members of the international jury of the ‘Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women’s Empowerment’, led by UN Under-Secretary General and UN Women Executive Director Sima Sami Bahous.
Present were the King’s personal representative Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Supreme Council for Women (SCW) secretary general Hala Al Ansari.
The delegation is visiting Bahrain to announce the winners of the second edition of the award during a ceremony today under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, His Majesty’s wife and SCW president, on the sidelines of the kingdom’s celebrations of Bahraini Women’s Day 2022.
The King commended the efforts of the international jury’s president and members.
He also praised the pioneering role of the SCW, led by HRH Princess Sabeeka, to enhance the status of Bahraini women and consolidate their effective role at the international level.
He appreciated the ongoing fruitful co-operation between the SCW in Bahrain and UN Women across various fields, especially in supporting the award and promoting women’s issues globally.
His Majesty underlined the award’s benevolent goals that aim to highlight the importance of women’s contributions to development efforts and social stability in all countries.
“Bahrain boasts a rich past and an advanced civilisation,” the King said, adding that Bahraini women have contributed significantly to the kingdom’s development process, and play a noble role in taking care of their families.
