2023 is a time to set realistic goals. Most of us enter January with a renewed outlook, but we slip back into our old ways by the month’s end. Have you thought about why this scenario is happening? Why are the true intentions just vanishing into nothingness?
The following are the methods through which our goals move along:
– We identify the life we want and the habits needed to achieve it.
– We also understand what all actions are required to start those habits.
– We commence those actions and don’t tolerate any distractions, and our goals vanish.
But do we try our best to overcome distractions, or do we fall and feel guilty?
A positive feeling toward the ambitions is mandatory. The foremost step to be taken is to reframe our goals.
Given below are a few situations along with their responses required:
l Rather than saying: ‘I am going to stop eating junk food’. Reframe the sentence to ‘I will eat healthy food’. Here we are not restraining ourselves from junk food; instead, we are planning to reduce the number of times we eat unhealthy food.
l Instead of saying: ‘I am going to stop working late’. Try to say: ‘Let me make an honest try to spend quality time with family and friends’.
l The most common one is: ‘I will stop spending on unnecessary items’. Rewrite it to: ‘Let me put an effort to save more’.
From cradle to cubicle, we focus on our shortcomings rather than our strengths. Instead of focusing on weaknesses, we have to focus on our strengths. Honing our strengths will boost our confidence. A vision board will be a great help in tracking progress.
Listing a few quick tips that will assist you in the execution of our goal:
Trust yourself: Self-efficacy is the only driving force that will take you through tough times. When things look bleak, you should stay confident in yourself.
Trust the process: There may be many people to mock and insult your goals. Never give up.
Create a vision: Always dream of your favourite version of yourself and try hard to be the same. Create the kind of self you would love to live.
Make your desires strong enough to rise above distractions.
Becoming the finest version of ourselves is a tedious task involving many sacrifices and hard work. To quote American essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson: ‘To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment’.
