A NEW makerspace was opened at the American University of Bahrain (AUBH) in partnership with Go Fab 3D.
The AUBH D-Lab opening ceremony was attended by Higher Education Council secretary-general and deputy chairperson Dr Shaikha Rana bint Isa Al Khalifa, and dignitaries who were welcomed by AUBH president Dr Bradley Cook and chief operating officer William Hurt.
A makerspace is a place where people with shared interests, especially in computing or technology, can gather to work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment and knowledge.
The lab provides students with the opportunity to digitally design and rapidly fabricate solutions as they work on live projects directly with professionals in a variety of fields.
The new space is armed with the largest number of 3D manufacturing machines in Bahrain including professional full-colour 3D printers, high-definition multi-jet plastic 3D printing, professional 3D scanners, laser cutters, vacuum forming machines, among other tools.
“This lab will serve as a digital fabrication hub with the aim of creating a collaborative environment in design fields to serve the business and manufacturing industries in Bahrain,” added AUBH Facilities director Ali Janahi.
