East Riffa overcame a stiff challenge by Muharraq to clinch the first edition of the ‘Khalid bin Hamad Gold Generation League’.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa presented the shield and gold medals to East Riffa who beat Muharraq 2-1 in the final of the league, organised by the GSA, in co-operation with the Bahrain Football Association (BFA).
Shaikh Khalid also presented silver medals to runners-up Muharraq and bronze medals to third-placed Al Shabab.
Shaikh Khalid asserted that the GSA will continue implementing and adopting programmes and initiatives aimed at creating qualitative opportunities for Bahraini athletes to showcase their capabilities and talent.
“The Khalid bin Hamad Gold Generation League will contribute to honing youngsters’ skills and building a solid base of athletes who are capable of competing at the highest levels in the coming period,” he added.
Shaikh Khalid congratulated East Riffa on winning the league, and praised the performance of Muharraq, wishing them best of luck in the upcoming matches.
He commended the efforts exerted by BFA, alongside GSA, to ensure the success of the competition, praising the co-operation of all participating teams.
