Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa met Dr Stacey A Dixon, the principal deputy director of US National Intelligence, on the sidelines of his visit to the US yesterday.
The meeting was attended by Bahrain Ambassador Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa and the minister’s delegation.
Dr Dixon stressed the importance of strategic relations and deepening trust between the two countries, spanning years-long co-operation.
The minister praised solid relations and strategic partnership, hailing joint efforts to maintain regional stability and protect international security and peace.
He pointed out the importance of developing mechanisms for exchanging experiences, as a basis for enhancing joint co-operation and facing challenges in a way that serves the interests of the two friendly countries.
The two sides discussed a number of strategic topics and issues, stressing the importance of enhancing security co-operation to confront security efficiently and effectively.
Addressing a panel discussion hosted by the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, the minister highlighted security co-operation between Bahrain and the US.
Robert Satloff, executive director of the institute, noted the importance of the minister’s visit and role in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
Shaikh Rashid stressed the importance of exchanging expertise, which will contribute to increasing the capabilities of the security services and keeping pace with the development taking place in the field of organised and cross-border crime.
He highlighted effective measures to address various security threats, within the framework of joint efforts to consolidate regional stability and protect international peace and security, noting that among the security challenges is combating and containing organised crime, drones and cyber attacks.
He stressed the importance of benefiting from modern technologies, developing co-operation and exchanging experiences and information within the framework of enhancing joint co-operation to protect security and stability.
