TV cameras captured the moment inspectors raided a rogue sofa-making workshop located in a residential area.
The ‘bust’ was broadcast on Bahrain TV as a presenter followed the process of Industry and Commerce Ministry inspectors visiting an establishment that allegedly violated commercial rules and regulations.
The broadcast showed a large, disorganised workshop with indoor and outdoor areas occupied by both finished and unfinished sofas, chairs, cushions, equipment and more.
Inspector Khalifa Al Muhannadi guided viewers around the process of a ministry inspection, following the concerns voiced by residents on a visit to the site.
“We create a thorough plan of action,” he explained. “Once we are inside, we take photographs of the entire place, then check the identification of the employees working there. Then, we create a report and include any violations found on site.”
Another inspector pointed out the potential hazards of places such as the sofa-making premises.
“The workshop was dangerous because it caused a hazard to the houses around it, especially since the mattresses and pieces of wood were placed haphazardly,” inspector Aysha Janahi revealed. “It also lacked any health and safety considerations or provisions.”
The broadcast has been part of a series of efforts by the Industry and Commerce Ministry to educate the public about commercial laws and the merits of following government regulations.
Inspectors often record site visits and publish them on social media.
