Fakhro Restaurants Company, owners of McDonald’s Bahrain, has donated $100,000 towards relief efforts for the Palestinians.
The company announced on its social media accounts that the donation would be made in co-ordination with the Bahrain authorities.
A statement said: “We at the company sympathise with our Palestinian brothers.”
It urged people not to speculate on its ‘Arabism, patriotism and local social commitment’.
“We operate within the geographic boundaries of Bahrain and have nothing to do with any move taken by any other agent abroad,” it added.
The company said it was proud of its national identity since establishing the brand in the kingdom.
“We will continue to support the economy and our community, while adopting the social and humanitrian causes that are of importance to it,” it added. “For that, we are donating $100,000 towards relief efforts for the Palestinians with the cash donation co-ordinated with the official Bahraini authorities.”
The company explained that McDonald’s International was a shareholding company owned by many.
Fakhro Restaurants Company presently owns and operates more than 20 McDonald’s restaurants in the kingdom, with more planned openings in the near future.
The conflict in Israel and Palestine has caused a PR nightmare for the brand after McDonald’s Israel announced that it was opening five branches dedicated to donating about 4,000 meals to Israeli soldiers.
“In reference to the Israeli agent of McDonald’s donating meals, we affirm that the move is a personal decision and an action that McDonald’s International and its other agents in 130 countries have nothing to do with or have any involvement, directly or indirectly,” the statement issued by Fakhro Restaurants Company added.
