A public park in an area where families of Bahrain’s police and military martyrs live needs an urgent revamp, according to a councillor.
Southern Governorate constituency nine (Safra, Zallaq and Sakhir) councillor Hamad Al Zoubi added that renovating the Safra Public Park should come as part of the government’s commitment to the families of security personnel and servicemen who were martyred in the line of duty.
“Bahrain commemorates Martyr Day next week – actually events and activities marking the day have already started – but it is just a day of remembrance when families of those martyred don’t have the luxury of basic life needs like enjoying time at the only park near their homes,” said Mr Al Zoubi.

“The park, in a derelict state, is abandoned because the pitch is an injury-prone facility, normal lighting and floodlights are out of service, the trees and grass are dead, and the chairs and rest seats are broken,” he added.
“The existing old children’s rides are in a bad shape and need replacement besides new additions.”
Mr Al Zoubi pointed out that councillors along with municipal officials visited the park in July and found that the place needed a massive revamp. “But to date nothing has been done.”
An urgent proposal was yesterday submitted to Southern Municipal Council chairman Abdulla Abdullatif for inclusion in the council’s meeting on Wednesday at the earliest.
Bahrain marks Martyrs Day on Sunday.
