FULFILLING the citizens’ aspirations and improving their living standards will always remain the top priority, according to the head of a top panel debating restructuring financial support.
A fair solution needs to be found urgently as the citizens can’t wait, the head of the Joint Committee for Restructuring Government Support and Parliament first deputy speaker Abdulnabi Salman said yesterday.
He told our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej that the committee had received the government’s reply to the views and suggestions that it sent to it.
The committee had presented to the government three options supported by figures and estimations, Mr Salman pointed out.
He added that the committee will continue to work with the government to improve the citizens’ living conditions, especially those most deprived.
He said that after studying all the details, members agreed on how to address the six types of financial support that the government has been providing for years.
The recommendations were sent to the government which, he said, favoured merging all of them into one.
The committee does not object to this idea, he said, as long as it does not lead to reducing the support for the citizens.
Mr Salman stressed that the committee members, both MPs and Shura Council members, are keen on improving the living conditions of citizens but the government has its own calculations and budget issues.
This, however, should not be an obstacle, he felt.
The two councils and the government should be able to achieve success, with a little more understanding of the other side’s position and an agreement on priorities.
