The summer work ban will be extended to three months, from June 15 to September 15, starting from next year.
The Cabinet approved the extension of the work ban from two months to three months during its session earlier today, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa.
The extension is aimed at protecting workers from extreme heat.
The Migrant Workers Protection Society (MWPS) welcomed the government’s decision and added that it would help prevent heat-related illnesses and safeguard the welfare of the thousands of workers who contribute immensely to our economy.
"We applaud the government for making this decision that rightfully puts the safety of our workers first," MWPS chairperson Mona Almoayyed added.
"This extension will provide much-needed relief to migrant workers who face challenging and potentially hazardous working conditions during the summer heat."
The MWPS had been calling for the extension since the beginning of this summer under its campaign #ExtendTheShade.
