CYCLING – Bahrain's Hassan Thamer and Mohammed Hassan Jawad are set to fly the kingdom’s flag in the Track Asia Cup 2026, taking place from today until Sunday in Suphan Buri, Thailand.
The continental meeting is set to feature multiple track competitions including individual pursuit, keirin, team sprint, scratch, sprint, omnium, points race, and time trial, to be held across various categories for elite men, elite women, junior men, and junior women.
The action will be held at Hua Mark Velodrome, where an opening ceremony will take place today.
Thamer and Jawad are amongst a field of more than 1,000 riders and officials representing 38 teams squads from 21 countries, which include national teams and independent cycling clubs.
The Bahraini pair prepared for the championship with a training camp held in Shuzenji, Japan, where they honed their skills alongside elite cyclists and teams from around the world at the Union Cycliste Internationale’s (UCI) World Cycling Centre regional development satellite, located about 150 kilometres from Tokyo.
Aside from Bahrain, the other national sides are coming from Singapore, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Australia, Malaysia, Macau, Indonesia, Philippines, India, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and hosts Thailand.
