Forty-four illegal workers were deported in the last week of November as the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) continues its inspection campaigns to crack down on residency violations.
A total of 1,547 inspection visits were held between November 24 and 30, and 48 workers were found to have violated residency or labour laws. Forty-four violators were deported and legal measures were initiated.
The LMRA also added that 1,527 inspection visits were carried out at commercial establishments in all governorates, in addition to 20 joint campaigns.
Fourteen inspections were held in the Capital Governorate, three in Muharraq, two in Northern and one in Southern Governorate.
Alongside the Interior Ministry and the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs, the joint operations also included each governorate’s respective police, General Directorate of Crime Detection and Forensic Evidence, General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, as well as the Coastguard.
The GDN previously reported that more than 50,000 inspection visits have been carried out this year as part of a nationwide crackdown on undocumented workers.
The LMRA added that the campaigns are being stepped up to ‘address any violations or practices that negatively affect the stability and competitiveness of the labour market or harm economic and social security of the kingdom.’
It also called on members of the public to support efforts by reporting violations via the electronic form on the authority’s website www.lmra.gov.bh, by calling 17506055 or via the government’s suggestions and complaints system Tawasul.
