As part of Bahrain’s preparations for the United Nations (UN) eGovernment Survey 2026, the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) organised a specialised workshop on global trends in eGovernment growth for government entities.
The workshop featured presentations by Vincenzo Aquaro, chief of the Digital Government Branch in the Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government at the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), and Angelika Zundel, a specialised consultant in digital government and public sector decentralisation, and several international experts.
The event was attended by representatives from Bahrain’s government entities, alongside delegations from Tunisia and Comoros.
The workshop reflects iGA’s commitment to implementing the directives of Interior Minister and chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa. These efforts aim to sustain Bahrain’s leadership in eGovernment, as demonstrated by its 18th global ranking in the 2024 UN eGovernment report and its position among top performing countries.
iGA chief executive Mohammed Ali Al Qaed emphasised the impact of Bahrain’s national plans, digital transformation strategies, and collaborative government efforts in securing Bahrain’s regional and international leadership in eGovernment. He noted that these achievements align with the kingdom’s Government Programme (2023-2026) objectives, focusing on enhancing public service efficiency, digitisation, and adopting innovative technologies to deliver smarter services.
Mr Al Qaed highlighted the importance of the workshop in equipping government entities with insights into the UN’s evaluation standards and helping them adapt to rapid global changes in digital transformation. The workshop provided a platform for sharing success stories, discussing Bahrain’s plans to enhance digital maturity, and ensuring compliance with the UN’s criteria to improve the kingdom’s standing in the 2026 eGovernment Survey.
Mr Al Qaed highlighted Bahrain’s progress as a regional fintech hub under the forward thinking leadership of the Central Bank of Bahrain and initiatives such as the Technical Development Programme to enhance digital skills in the workforce.
