Opportunities for more trade and investment took centre-stage yesterday as Bahrain and Italy reviewed the development of their strategic relations.
His Majesty King Hamad held talks, in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, with the visiting Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at Gudaibiya Palace.
His Majesty said the visit marks an important step in further strengthening the partnership.
The leaders discussed the development of the strategic relations and opportunities to enhance co-operation, particularly in economic, trade, investment, and sustainable development sectors to serve mutual interests.
The King also commended Italy’s initiatives to reinforce international peace and stability as well as address global issues that foster co-operation among nations.
They exchanged views on regional and international developments, including the latest updates in the Middle East.
The two sides underscored the importance of dialogue, diplomatic solutions and co-operation in addressing crises and promoting global peace and stability.
The Italian Prime Minister commended His Majesty’s efforts to strengthen historical relations between the two countries and advance co-operation across various sectors.
The King hosted a luncheon in honour of the Italian Prime Minister and her accompanying delegation.
During his separate meeting with Prime Minister Meloni, HRH Prince Salman highlighted that relations had been deepened by a shared history of multi-sectoral collaboration and the unwavering support of His Majesty.
He highlighted Italy’s role, alongside allied countries, in safeguarding regional and international security and peace.
An official reception ceremony was held featuring the national anthems of Bahrain and Italy.
Prime Minister Meloni, who arrived in Bahrain earlier in the day, was welcomed at the airport by Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani and senior officials.
She arrived in Bahrain from Saudi Arabia where she had met Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, as part of her regional visit.
Italy signed agreements worth around $10 billion with Saudi Arabia as part of a strengthened strategic partnership.
