As many as 148 inspection campaigns were conducted by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in 2024, covering telecommunications device retailers, licensed wireless device vendors, and authorised frequency spectrum users, it has emerged.
The national telecommunications watchdog revealed that it reviewed 11,423 import licence applications for telecommunications devices, a 9 per cent increase from 10,488 applications in 2023. Violations related to these imports decreased to four in 2024, down from 19 in 2023.
The TRA’s Spectrum Directorate, in coordination with the Customs Affairs Department at the Interior Ministry, inspects imported telecom devices before and after their arrival in Bahrain. This ensures compliance with TRA technical regulations, optimises frequency spectrum use, and prevents harmful interference.
The TRA emphasises the importance of obtaining necessary licenses before importing wireless devices to comply with Bahrain’s technical regulations and avoid potential issues for individuals, businesses, and government entities.
