Bahraini and Arab filmmakers are being encouraged to submit their entries as registration for the Bahrain Film Festival (BFF) opens.
Creatives have until June 20 to submit their works in five categories – Bahraini films, short narratives, short documentaries, animations and student movies.
The fifth edition of the festival, organised by Bahrain Cinema Club, will be held from October 30 to November 3.
It aims to highlight Arab talent and shine a bright spotlight on the kingdom’s cinematic prowess.
“The films should be produced after January 1, 2024 and have never been screened on television or online platforms,” a BFF official said in a statement.
“Participants may submit more than one film, as long its duration does not exceed 30 minutes.
“The film’s dialogue can be in any language, but it must include Arabic translation. Only Arab nationals are eligible to take part.
“In addition, people submitting films in the student category must provide the relevant educational documentation as evidence.
According to the official, the festival has helped spread Arab culture and strengthened the exchange of artistic and cultural understanding.
“It has also enhanced the kingdom’s cinematic brilliance and encouraged young Bahraini talent to demonstrate their skills and abilities. We are looking forward to reviewing this year’s submissions,” the official added.
The fourth edition of the Bahrain Film Festival, held last year, featured an impressive line-up of Arab cinema talent and a red-carpet event that celebrated both established and emerging voices in the industry.
It generated 481 submissions from 23 Arab countries, of which 89 made it through into the competition.
Hosted at Marassi Bahrain’s Reel Cinemas, organised by the Bahrain Cinema Club and supported by the Information Ministry, Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities and the Saudi Film Commission, the festival was launched as part of the Manama: Capital of Arab Media.
