More than 200 student artworks are being showcased as part of a charity art exhibition unveiled yesterday at the Marassi Galleria Mall in Diyar Al Muharraq.
Being held under the patronage of National Arts Council chairman and Bahrain Arts Society honorary president Shaikh Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, the Sovereign Art Award Exhibition will run until Saturday.
All proceeds from the event will support the Royal Humanitarian Foundation’s (RHF) educational and healthcare initiatives.
“The remarkable youth creativity on display at this exhibition reflects the immense potential of the new generation and highlights the need to provide platforms that embrace and support these talents,” Shaikh Rashid noted.
“Moreover, dedicating the exhibition’s proceeds to support the educational and health projects of the Royal Humanitarian Foundation illustrates the integration of artistic and humanitarian values in a single initiative.”
He also highlighted the importance of discovering and nurturing artistic talent in schools and universities.
Organised in collaboration with the RHF, the exhibition is part of the fifth Sovereign Art Foundation’s Bahrain Students Prize, which was first established in 2014.
The Hong Kong-based Sovereign Art Foundation was established in 2003, and is dedicated to bringing the ‘therapeutic benefits of art to children in need, so they can live full and creative lives’ in addition to recognising and promoting contemporary art talent.
The Sovereign Art Award exhibition features winning entries from school and university students across Bahrain who participated in a competition organised by the RHF.
The initiative aims to foster humanitarian values among young people while nurturing their artistic talents.
The exhibition is open to the public daily from 10am to 10pm until April 26 and will also host school trips to engage more students with the cause.
RHF secretary-general Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa extended his gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad for his continuous support of the foundation’s efforts.
He also acknowledged the support of the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Shaikh Ali also noted the leadership of the King’s Representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa in advancing the foundation’s mission and supporting the Sovereign Art Foundation Prize.
He thanked the Education Ministry, Sovereign Art Foundation, and participating schools and universities for their contributions.
